Today David and I agreed to start at 9am and after coffee and half of yesterday's leftover burger we met in the parking lot and did a little bike maintenance. We pumped tires to the correct pressure and I lubed my chain. I then noticed that my front fork was a little lose and looking closer the front derailleur cable was pinched between the fork and the frame. It was really jammed in there and did a lot to explain the twitchy handling I've been experiencing and the poor shifting on the rings.
I fixed it and reset the stem and what a difference. Riding instantly got more fun. The last 4 days I felt my handling was really bad.
We headed out of town and immediately saw some gorgeous coast.
We stopped at Natural Bridges. David when all the way down to the bridge along some sketchy trail. I stayed up top and took his photo.
Highway 101 was not too bad today for traffic. It is Saturday so that might have helped but we were also in a much less populated area. A little before Brookings David suddenly was missing and after I waited for a few minutes I backtracked a few hundred meters and spotted his yellow jersey fixing a flat tire.
In Brookings we were looking or a lunch spot and one place had a very unusual 4.9 rating. We checked it out thinking something was a little fishy. The Off The Wagon Food Truck deserves it's high rating. I had excellent pulled pork sandwich and very good real fries. David inhaled his burger and fries and went back for a really nice looking sausage hot dog. I can't believe I didn't get any pictures of the food.
Leaving Brookings we got some local route advice from a guy on his bike we passed going up the hill. The route for some reason took the long busy way around.
With little warning we were in California. I was past the sign and wondering why David stopped. Got to get photos here!
The rest of the way to Crescent City was off 101 and pleasant. We stopped for coffee at a market. Some guy had his really loud car running. This car seemed to be burning only about half of the gas it was using and everything within 50 meters reaked of gasoline.
Another few kilometers and we were in Crescent City. I think they must be using the word city in an old timey kind of way.
I went to my hotel and David got the one two big parking lots over. We met for dinner at the Mexican place across 101. We will start off together tomorrow but he is camping the redwoods tomorrow and I and going on to Eureka.
