Andalusia: Day 13- Antequera - rest day

Today was suppose to be rainy all day so I took a rest day.  All night I heard rain and as I woke, I thought I made a good choice.  When it cleared up and blue sky and sun came out I wasn't so sure.  Didn't matter, this is a nice town and there are things to see.

I walked away from the touristy center of town and found a bar for my morning coffee.  I had 3 cafe con leche.  You can tell the local places because they have the gambling machines and old guys drinking at 10am.  The bartender was pouring at least one shot for every coffee.

I planned out a tourist day.  Antequera has some really interesting stuff and I was going to do a walking tour.

First up the Alcazaba.  It dominates the city and can be seen for miles.  It was originally a Moorish fortress and was one of the last Moorish strongholds in Spain, falling in 1410.  The Christians then turned all the Mosques into churches and took over the Alcazaba.  Amazing views.  I took the old people discount and got in for 3€.  The audio guide plays from your phone and is interesting.

I could see the route I came on; I came in from the main highway from the left, along the road with the Mirador.  I rode along the base of the rock mountains on the right before getting to the town.

Roman baths!  Before the Moors there were Romans here.

After the Alcazaba it was time for some lunch at Saborío del Hacebuche.   I ordered the Iberian Lizard from the English menu.  I think the Spanish was Google Translated and it came out wrong.  They probably think the English speakers don't like pork.  I had to do some Googling using the translation of lizard to Spanish and adding Ibèrica to find it is a pork cut.

I think Antequera is a bit of a Spanish foodie town.  Many places have smaller portions (and more expensive) than elsewhere and things are a little fancier.

After lunch my next stop was the Dolmen.  I have no idea what a Dolmen is.  I went to Dolmen de Menga and right beside it Dolmen de Viera.  This is UNESCO World Heritage Site with 3 ancient megalithic monuments.  These things are 5000 years old.   There is also a museum which they make you go to first.  They also make you get a ticket ... which is free.   They are interested in where you are from.

After all this history I had a beer in the bar where I had my morning coffee.  Shots to coffee was now about 4 to 1.

For dinner I ended up in a place I walked by that had tables and a good rating.  The tomato salad was excellent.  The secreto was good but a little too sweet to my tastes.
