Worst ride ever.
On my way out of the hotel I got a coffee and a little snack. My Wahoo bike computer was dead after yesterday. It would boot but not charge with the power cable connected. Even with the power cable connected it would only stay powered for a few minutes. I hope it dries itself out but I may be buying a new bike computer soon.
The rain held off until the first climb and descent but was pretty consistent after the 30km. I stopped in Priego de Córdoba after missing turns in the rain and had two cafe con leche. I was cold and put on my second jacket. I still had over 800m of climbing to go.
I was a little put off by the number of drivers slamming shots and beers at 11am. It made me pull into the debris on the shoulder every time I heard a car coming. Most drivers here are excessively kind and pull out full into the oncoming lane to pass, but some didn't slow or pull out at all. The vast majority of those who do not adjust for a cyclist are mostly higher end cars. Hey, I don't hold it against you if you drive a nice car but be aware it puts you in a cohort that has a lot of assholes.
Whenever I looked around and mentally removed the freezing cold rain this would have been an amazing ride through rolling hills of olive plantations.
When I hit the last summit I saw the amazing castle above Alcalá la Real in the mist. Google it, it really is impressive. Frozen, wet fingers aren't going to be taking that picture.
When I got into town I was frozen. I had to stop several times to look at my phone and that was a major production with all the undressing and wiping. When I found the hotel I was frozen and not all that functional. The lady at the door had to wipe my glasses for me so I could see the room number. I immediately got in the shower and my feet had black splotches. I looked it up and it's a thing from cold and wet. 30 minutes later they were normal again.
After blasting the heat in the room and shivering for a while I needed to get some food. The bar down the street wasn't serving food but with each beer I got a little snack. I had 4 snacks.
My bar tender said the weather was unusual. I certainly did not expecting to be shivering in Spain and having my feet turn black.
Back in my room doing laundry with the heater blasting. I normally sweat over 20°C and I've got it at 26! I watched a little TV before going out for food. I ended up at a place were they gave me half a salad and it was still too big.
