Day 6 - Archeology Day in San Agustin

Last night's dinner with the Ivans was fun and we had breakfast with them this morning.  After breakfast Filipe brought is into town to the tour guide office and we met our guide, Marino.
Filipe drove us up to Parque Arqueológico De San Agustin behind Marino on his little scooter.

Even though we had walked around the park yesterday it was nice to get some explanaion of what we were seeing.  The theme of the statues artistically was was anthromorphic people with large heads, big eyes, no necks, short legs.
Hundreds of these statues all over the San Agustin area were left by a people long gone.  Far more questions than answers here.  There is evidence of people here as early as 3500BC but most of the big burial sites and statues date from 1-900AD.  At some point before the Spanish arrived in the 1500s the people vanished.

Marino beleives only about 10% have been uncovered.

After the main park we had a nice lunch at Casa Blanca.
Then began the 4 wheeler part of the tour.  We bounced around to several sites and then walked a good bit to the artifacts.  By the time the tour ended we were exhausted.
