I didn't sleep well last night. I had some leg cramps in the night that kept me up. I got relief from a concentrated Nuun hydration tablet and a little water. Electrolytes fix cramps.
Mike and I went for coffee, churros and the choco sauce. Pretty good.
Today's ride was designed to be a little shorter and feature lunch in Frailes. It's about 10km and 150m from Alcalá but that's what you need to do to expand your lunch options. The trick was s to time it to get there just at 2pm.
We did a mixture of two ride I've done this trip. The very short Charilla Loop and the ride up to Hoya del Salobral. This worked quite well.
We headed north out of town turned toward Charilla and started to climb the hill. Two cars pass obnoxiously which is really rare here. Through town and into the olive groves up the hill. At the top it gets kind of industrial as you go into Santa Ana. We stopped for coffee.
The road toward Frailes has two 50m up and downs. Before Ribera Alta we turned onto the farm road. After this point we rarely saw a car. It was the beginning of a 10km 500+m climb. I had the heavy legs from yesterday and lagged. Mike and Albert stuck together and Alpha was between us. I could see Mike and Albert above me when I paused for a drink. I think they were about 150m above me.
When I go to the turn off to the town Alpha was talking to three female maintenance workers. He went in to the town to check out the view and the healing church. I carried on as the workers reported the other two cyclists did not go into the town.
Before the big downhill I was being yelled at and then Mike and Albert came down some side road from Cañada. They had found the wrong town.
We started the descent and I was following Albert but completely lost him on the steepest part. It think I saw 69 km/h when I briefly glanced down. I was not taking a long look. Looking at my speed in the ride record there is indeed a 69+. That's really fast.
In Frailes we gathered and waited for Alpha untill we got bored and headed to the restaurant. We had to noodle through town and climb quite a bit. When we got to the restaurant it was naturally closed. But just as we started to moan Alpha arrived. He had seen us leave the main road and arrived seconds behind us.
We ended up at the place I had lunch a few days earlier. Not as good this time but it was lunch. And it was 11€.
The ride into town was a little sleepy.
We did laundry and I reglued the Ethernet cable that was coming a little undone. My gluegun broke and Mike and I got a beer and a new one.
A little later we all went to La Fortaleza for a little beer, tapas and snacks. I think we were all pretty tired. Albert was planning in leaving tomorrow but every weather check showed a worse and worse day. He will decide in the morning. It could be a rain day.
