I started the day at the churros place. I was waiting at the door when he opened a few minutes after 8. I then went to collect my Amazon packages at the Correos. Some things can't go to the post office and it is a major pain to be at the house exactly when they decide to deliver. This afternoon I missed one by just a few minutes.
Today I did the 600m climb ride through Hortichuela. For some reason this village and and others I've noticed are incorrectly labeled on Google Maps. The name on the road signs do not match the map name. Pilas de Fuente Soto is on Google Maps and all the signs on the road say El Hortichuela. Very confusing. Maybe the name is too long and they truncate the most important part.
It was cool enough that I wore my jacket to the first climb just past the main road to Alcaudete. Coming down to San José de la Rabita I became very curious about all the towns I could see. I followed a sign to Fuente Alamo but after climbing up a ways I checked the map and headed back. To visit Fuente Alamo next time I will stay on the La Rabita road, visit the town and take my detour road back to the Hortichuela road. Back on the Hortichuela road is soon saw a sign pointing to Sileras. Hmmm, another little town to visit.
At that point I think the 600m climb starts. Not much at first but RIdeWithGPS says 11.5km/555m at an average of 5.4%. So I lied about the 600m. It's a good climb. Very cool to look back on the switchbacks. I paused for a photo in Hortichuela.
At the top I elected to take the direct road to Alcalá la Real. I questioned that decision a few minutes when I could see the castle in rain and a grey cloud. It was so lear the other direction. I felt drops and put my jacket on. I was expecting to get soaked but it passed out of town as I descended.
I just missed the delivery to the house but I was able to get another that was at the post office. I made it minutes before the closed at 2:30. That's the bad part about sending packages to the Correos.
One of my deliveries was the soil tube I needed to repair the Room 3 toilet. I procrastinated a bit with lunch and my blog I forgot to do last night. But I knew I had to do it. It was stinking up the house and I am sleeping in Room 3 so I was motivated. But I wasn't looking forward to it.
I gathered all my parts and tools and started. To better access the tube it made sense to remove the tank and replace the flush mechanism. I was feeling pretty good about it because I'd done two and was a bit of a pro. Naturally, nothing is easy. There was a non-standard hose connected to the shutoff. I also realized I had the wrong flush kit. I had one for a bottom inlet and I needed a side inlet. Off to Hiper Home. Found what I needed and returned the wrong kit.
Time to get dirty. What a nasty, nasty job. Fortunately, the toilet hadn't been used since I bought the place and I had be flushing clean water. As soon as I disconnected one end on the toilet the whole tube shattered. The plastic was brittle and just fell apart. The wall end was seriously stuck. I fought hard to get it out.
I attached the new one but how and this be acceptable to code is beyond me. It is a flimsy accordion tube pressed on to the toilet and pushed into the wall pipe. It probably should be changed every 5 years or the plastic gets brittle. My kids are looking forward to that!
Next was the toilet water shutoff. I had to put in two adapters to get it to the standard toilet size. When everything was together. It leaked.
I was done and went to the La Fortaleza for some beer, tapas and croquetas.
