Still not sleep past 2am. I keep passing out in the afternoon. At least three times I was sitting and just became unconscious.
I headed over to the 6am bar for a few coffees. It's Saturday so not just the old guys were drinking at 6am.
7:30am ..
Today was a little chilly so I wore my jacket. I was glad for it in the downhills. I still didn't feel like a longer ride and I needed to go to the home store before they closed for siesta so I chose the Castillo de Locubin Loop. I wanted to figure out how to get through the town without having to walk up a stupid steep part.
I felt fast today for some reason. I hit the highway part where it is nice that it is downhill but the shoulder on that section is pretty rough. Very few cars so most of the time I was in the lane. It's nice when you are going that fast because the cars don't come on you so quickly. When they do, however, you have to move on a rough shoulder at speed. I only saw about 5 cars on the 5km stretch so nothing to complain about. I could only dream of a road like this most of the time but around here it is not the best.
When I got to Castillo de Locubin I followed the roundabout toward the river instead of up the hill. The river road adds a few kilometers but I could ride it all. It looped around town and did go down a lot before going up but it never when over 9% that I saw. I also found a 6am bar for future reference. And a market.
Looks like about a 6km/300m climb through town to the top. Good views - spoiled this time by smokey fires. It must be cool enough to light a fire.
Near the top and all the way down there was a lot of debris in the road from water run off. The downhill to Alcalá la Real was partially bad. Loose sand, grave and vegetation in large sections. Yesterday's rain was briefly torrential but I was a lot of debris. I watched a video of some guy in a desert area that got heavy brief rains and he was doing a lot of work on his land to slow the water flow so more of it soaked in. After a few years he got the land to be noticably greener. Here there is nothing to stop water from running of the olive grove hills and it all ends up in the road.
On the hill into town I passed some cyclists speaking English. I caught me off guard and I didn't manage to say anything very friendly. I and so used to not understanding or being understood that I can't talk easily when I can. I should have been more chatty but only managed a few grunts.
I stopped for coffee and churros and sitting there for a while without a jacket I wished I had put it on. To be fair, a few hours later on the roof in the sun I was very warm.
After my not very well thought out Hiper Home and Lidl run I focused on getting the part I needed to fix toilet on Amazon. I will have to deal with the stink coming from it for a few more days. I also ordered a bunch of things which will be coming. I found a tiny water pump I can drive from an ESP32 board I have which will allow me to remotely water the plants Nilda bought for the house.
I have several IoT projects I need to get done this month for the house. Since the stores are closed tomorrow and I got a ton of stuff ordered on Amazon, I might be able to do a longer ride tomorrow.
On my way to dinner I stopped at the car with a measuring tap to figure it how next week We can fit Mike, Albert, two bikes, luggage and a bike case in a Fiat 500. I think I got it but Mike is not happy. I am the master packer ... it will work!
Dinner was a very nice salad at the fish restaurant. My first time here (other than coffee) and the food is quite good. A little light on the cerdo.
