France: Day 11 - Poitiers to Lussac-les-Châteaux

I fell asleep a few times writing last night so it is probably a little less than the usual less than good. I was quite tired after the long day and big dinner with Dave. I will say I was quite impressed with Poitiers. Great little city with a vibrant core and lots of interesting buildings built on top of a hill. I would visit again.

While Aidan was sleeping I went to a bakery and bought pastries. I let him.sleep because we're were only doing about 40km. We had to get back to the EuroVelo 3 about 25km away.

We were staying at the Ibis Centre and it worked out well for us. They stored our bikes in the luggage storage room and it was less than 100m from the main square.

It was about 11 when we rolled through the main square and headed out of town. Going out of town there was a drop to the river and then a climb back up. Until we got back to EV3 there were rolling hills and we climbed more than previous days.

There was just enough traffic to be annoying. We stopped for coffee at 13km at noon. The only restaurant on the way was another 7km down the road in Terce. Due to the restrictive food service hours we knew we had to get there soon.

La Mythic turned out to be a pretty fancy restaurant. Aidan tried the escargot. The food was very good and we enjoyed a long lunch.

Before we left we saw that Aidan's front tire was flat. I changed the tube and was glad I purchased 2 tubes yesterday.

The rest of the ride was very pleasant and the sun even came out a few times. Along the river we went through a series of cute little villages with stone houses. We also passed as close as I've ever been to a nuclear power plant.

Soon enough we reached Lussac-les-Châteaux, the town of our hotel and had one last climb on a busy road. The best thing about today's ride is we finished with dry shoes. No rain!

We walked into town and had pizza. A little different but very good. Quite filling and Aidan passed on desert. It was pouring when we went outside and we got very wet on the walk back. At least it didn't rain while we were riding.

Tired now.  Time for bed it's almost 10.
